Due to family medical issues, Requiem is on indefinite hiatus.
An elderly family member of ours took a bad fall on Labor Day night, and we’ve been dealing with the aftermath ever since. Hopefully, things will get sorted out, but as of right now, doing a daily comic is not something my schedule can allow.
Sorry to have this happen, but as everyone knows, real life comes first….and at least we don’t have too many running storylines on the backburner.
Thorondor “Ian” Caladharas is the 18 year old heir to one of the first of the Merchant Houses. An intelligent, independent teenager; Ian has a tendency towards irreverence and and frustration. In all honesty, he doesn’t care what his grandfather says he is heir to, he just wants to have a normal life. Or at least as normal a one as possible. (As my skills improved I made some revamps to this characters appearance to reflect aging and such as well. The top picture is how he is currently modeled. )
Julia Wells, significant other of Ian Caladharas. Julia co runs the Wells Hotel in Erech’s Clocktower District. For those people who have rpg’d in this world: The Wells Hotel is now known as Cytheron’s. Julia and Ian tied the knot in the City of Greyrest in the Crossing Territories.
This actually opens an even larger can of worms. I distinctly remember House Mebhe mentioning at least three missing giant tankers. Tankers that no longer have ports to deliver to. With the Mist, the start of this problem, Starfall is unreachable.
Considering that many of them originated at Amon-Lanc, they no longer have home ports either. Ergo, they are orphaned. From the story, many are automated with on-board AIs and are nuclear fueled and are therefore, largely autonomous. Finding them is one thing, having a port large enough to bring them to is yet a different problem. Unloading them is yet another problem. Does the Maris Islands have port capacity for them somewhere? Greenvale may help there, maybe? Another option is Delusarnan Port if it has been cleared from quarantine. There is also port Morris.
The House Mebhe Fleet also has a personnel issue. Most of those sailor were out at sea when Amon-Lanc was nuked. All of their families have been killed. From earlier in the story, they have less than 5,000 effectives, total. I am being generous. The Maris Islands airport also just became Hose Mebhe’s only land-based aeroport. Yes, Maris Islands-House Mebhe could definitely use the additional resources but dealing with them has its own set of issues.
There is also the issue of those that Dehane didn’t kill off, if any. There should be over 25,000 dead bodies and their support community, or resultant splinter groups.
Final minor detail, since many of the orphaned cargo fleet originated-from/destined-to Amon-Lanc, it could be legally argued that they fall under House Mebhe jurisdiction/ownership.
The Bill of Lading dictates ownership of the cargo. The ships are in international waters and are under whatever jurisdiction the treaties governing ocean shipments provides. Mebhe would have jurisdiction within Amon-Lanc waters. On the other hand, no one’s going to argue with a warship regarding who gets to do what unless they have a bigger one.
Yes and House Mebhe and Targeter’s company are the only large navies I know of. Berand Belisarius may have had one but that may be moot. Mebhe and Targeter both have carriers, Cruisers, not so much. You are correct, firepower at the point of contention, counts for a lot.
Got it.

… Assuming they /had/ any and it wasn’t all or mostly just avatars of himself.
