Due to family medical issues, Requiem is on indefinite hiatus.

An elderly family member of ours took a bad fall on Labor Day night, and we’ve been dealing with the aftermath ever since. Hopefully, things will get sorted out, but as of right now, doing a daily comic is not something my schedule can allow.

Sorry to have this happen, but as everyone knows, real life comes first….and at least we don’t have too many running storylines on the backburner.

That point where you realise that you are not the players.

    You are the pieces…

I dunno, the fact that they’ve been, essentially, invited here for this conference suggests that promotions are in order…

And you’ve always been the pieces.

    This is… Probably hopefully encouraging.

Yes, these are apparently AI entities that operate on a level of forethought and probabilities that makes the Dweller look like a child seeing pretty pictures in the clouds, with an agenda they’ve never bothered to share or describe to anyone else before… But it appears that they want to talk to Our Heroes — and when they arranged matters to get the opportunity, they deliberately chose a method that minimized disruption to anyone else.

That’s a degree of thoughtfulness I appreciate in near-omniscient AIs.

Three different typestyles. Three different voices? Suggests the Tower contains not one entity, but (at least) three.

      At least three is correct.

General Eisenhower once said that those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Their plans may seem to be out the door, but I suspect their preparations may pay off in the end. They have one thing in their favor: the AI’s need them.

FWIW, in Word 2019, the three fonts that most closely match the tower voices are “Agency FB”, “Californian FB” and “Berlin Sans FB”, respectively. Not that it probably makes any difference to the plot, but just for trivia sake. In my head I heard the first speaker in Paul Bettany’s voice, since he was marvelous as ‘Vision’ in the MCU, and I had the second as William “Hal 9000” Daniels, with the third as Majel Barrett-Roddenberry (all Trek computer voices). If James has a different trio of voices for these AI, I’d love to hear who he hears when he writes.

Agency FB I hear in my head as actor David Hyde Pierce in ‘Abe Sapien Hellboy’ mode.
The second font is Adobe Caslon Pro…and the one who casually dropped the David Bowie reference in panel 2-3 is voiced by Nigella Lawson.
And Berlin Sans FB is voiced by actor Luke Goss

Oh, that works quite well. David Hyde Pierce has been quite underutilized as of late.

There’s an itch halfway up the tower peak that we just can’t scratch and those stupid Thrones never get it right….
