So where do we go from here?
I’ve been thinking about that quite a bit over the last few months. And the first part of it all is going to be easy:
I’m taking a break for at least a month. On one hand, I’m seriously burnt out, and on the other there are some changes to the artistic pipeline I’d like to make before go into our next work. I’ve been seriously looking at the Affinity products (especially since Fireworks is no longer being made)
https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/ I’m hoping it works for us, especially since I’d actually like to release the secret art series that Aileana Noels figured in as prints at some point.
So it’s time for me to test some things, and it’s also time for me to take a look back at Requiem and see where we succeeded, and where we failed. And I like to think we succeeded in a lot of ways, especially when it comes to telling a coherent long-form story like this beast was. On the other hand, one of the things that I think we failed with was ‘presenting the story’.
Organizing things by character, day worked well enough…but if I had my way about it, I would have a map of the continent on your screen, and you would advance through days of the story (or hour/minute depending on what was needed). And when something happened on that day in a particular location, a thumbnail would popup in that spot and you could check out the story from that perspective.
It would allow you to actually have a better grasp of what all was going on during a particular moment. Not to mention how things and people tied together. Some of what I’ve always wanted to do was similar in vein to what Fourth Wall Studios was doing with Flare https://venturebeat.com/2012/10/09/fourth-wall-studios-flare-release/
That kind of thing is a pipe dream, I suppose. The map of the continent thing is doable though. I’d still do the normal daily strips as a thing, but I’d have a separate section off to the side with the big map and you could go day by day on things.
Hell, I’d even like to put together an original comic soundtrack for this whole series at some point.
First things first though, we are finally going to get the goddamn cast page and archives all updated and collated into one big section. Everyone will be getting a dang thumbnail, whether they matter or not, and we’re gonna get the rest of this thing tied off.
Also, I want to get the damn tarot card section back up and running again. WordPress updates killed the plugin I was using previously, and life events kind of kept me from digging around for a replacement.
I hope to have all that stuff taken care of by November 1, and I hope to have some more things to post and update you on as we go into the second big story.
It is coming…remember when Etain said that Ian and Miko were almost going to crack the whole thing and that they’d just run out of time? Just because the whole damn world ended doesn’t mean that they quit working.
You might say they have incentive
At any rate, it’s quiet time for me. I’m currently recovering from a vicious flu/cold thing right now, so the most I really want to do is just find a place and die for a while.
So anyway, all the best to you all, and we’ll be back here on November 1.
We’ll see you on the 1st (or later if you need the time). Looking forward to it.
Talking about WordPress breaking this and that is mainly the reason I haven’t done much (if any) commenting on this fine story. I enjoy it – even sometimes remember to put a vote on TWC.
Pity it is a P.I.T.A. to program an automated vote each day, which is why I haven’t got to voting every day, sorry.
take a good vacation ya sure earned it with all the work ya have been doing
Good job!
* Amazing the change in quality once you got your new “rig” and were able to up the quality! Wow .. just amazing
* You have told a good story. Every time I see Julia, or any of the other “good guys” I get a sad feeling .. for a character! Well done!!
* Bit easier following the story line now that I know more of what happens later.
Nice!
Still, so may questions … lol
One observation .. seems like one person was lost for every couple that were partnered? No reply required .. just an observation.
Again, well done. Enjoyed character development, how the tools and your rendering developed over the years, and how you kept most of us guessing as to what was going to happen next.
Really hoping you are going to share your next story, and really hoping it will continue Requiem.
