Internet and phone service are back up and running again! Restart date is going to be September 25, 2023. I need a little time to get back into the groove with things, plus a family member has some medical issues that are going on next week as well.
Thorondor āIanā Caladharas is the 18 year old heir to one of the first of the Merchant Houses. An intelligent, independent teenager; Ian has a tendency towards irreverence and and frustration. In all honesty, he doesnāt care what his grandfather says he is heir to, he just wants to have a normal life. Or at least as normal a one as possible. (As my skills improved I made some revamps to this characters appearance to reflect aging and such as well. The top picture is how he is currently modeled. )
This little bit was planned out years ago, actually. I knew how this was going to work out (for sure) back when I talked about how much I hated leaving that little loose end out there.
But, was it the Mariner himself, or the initial scout ship? There were three wooden ships and he was talking to the captain of the Wayfarer about travel attempts prior to the Orion heading out to never return. (Yes, I had to reread to be certain he wasn’t shown leaving on any of these boats)
Indeed, they still have no ‘body’ and probably never will. “Missing and presumed…” fits the facts since Kronos ate all the bodies. He was last seen around Starfall ad now there is no one there. Absolutely no one knows that he got aboard a wooden boat before Kronos hit Starfall.
Of course, if the old man was one of the few people on the planet that was immune to Kronos, and the only survivor of the Orion, he would have had the skills to sail what’s left of the ship close to the main continent. Once in sight of land, lash together a few planks of driftwood and either scuttle the ship or set it adrift at sea. It’s not unreasonable that he had a hidden safe house with a new identity and a load of cash far from Erech city, just in case. If there ever was a time to start over quietly, now is the best time. Considering how well the kids have been running the show since he’s been gone, the house is in good hands. The only question is if the widow Tindal also goes “missing and presumed” in the next few years, or if the old man really does make a clean break without the missus.
I think I owe them a beer. [innocent look] What? That old dude was an ass.

Heck, the people in the story don’t know for sure…and they probably never will.
And that’s the way he’ll stay since the events of Starfall have become known.
There isn’t going to be any long-winded, storyteller fiat, BS ways he could have escaped, survived, and setup a new life for himself.
He is āmissing and presumedā and that’s the way he’ll stay. And you’ll never know otherwise.
