Due to family medical issues, Requiem is on indefinite hiatus.

An elderly family member of ours took a bad fall on Labor Day night, and we’ve been dealing with the aftermath ever since. Hopefully, things will get sorted out, but as of right now, doing a daily comic is not something my schedule can allow.

Sorry to have this happen, but as everyone knows, real life comes first….and at least we don’t have too many running storylines on the backburner.

Wow. I *finally* got caught up.

This is an amazing achievement, to write and produce such a rich and complex story over such an extended period of time. Even on the basis of persistence alone, it is something you should be proud of! I think when the history of webcomics is written, this will be listed as a classic.

The story itself was engaging enough to keep my slogging through the 30 second page loads. How I’m going to make it through waiting a day or weekend at a time, I don’t know. But if people have been reading it for 8 years, I guess I can make it to the end.

At times I had wondered if you even HAD an end in mind, because of the vast scope. (You indirectly answered that at one point in response to someone’s question). I think it would have kept me engaged for as long as you wanted to take it. The pacing, characterization, and story-telling quality have been amazingly consistent throughout.

And, of course, the modelling and rendering have only gotten better, as tools and artist have improved over time.

It absolutely has a very cinematic feel to it. I’d love to see it as a feature film! I don’t know how well it would fit; there’s a lot more to fit than your typical comic-book superhero story — but if you can fit it, so much the better! But it might be like fitting Lord of the Rings into a 75-minute film.

I’d consider it pretty cool if my wife got to work on a film version. She’s worked on CG for such things as Star Wars, Hulk, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, and many others. Your story is much better than a lot of the big-budget films she’s worked on!

One thing she worked on was taking facial motion capture data of Jim Carrey and mapping it onto Scrooge…. with the strong emphasis on human characters in every scene, I wonder if you’d go with live actors, CG actors+mocap, or pure CG animation. (The last option might be very expensive, depending on what you want to achieve.)

Anyway, I eagerly await the rest of the story!

      Welcome to James’ world!

I started reading this about six years ago. Finally getting caught up is one of intiations around here. 😉 Now, you’ve got to put up with weekly, if not daily cliff hangers, just like the rest of us.

As you’ve experienced for yourself, this story is well worth your time. It does have that whole Joseph Campbell ‘power of myth’ and ‘Hero’s Journey’ thingy going for it, too.

In case you haven’t noticed, you’re also in good company around here. The fans seem to be a cut above the average. Normally courteous …and very smart and well informed.

Turning this story into a screen play would be an interesting exercise for someone with your stated contacts. If it was produced and directed by the right people, with the right backing…

If only my contacts were the people with the money, rather than the people with the know-how!

Tell enough people with the know-how about this story, and word will get around to the people who have the money. 😉

Sorry it took a while to get back to you on this, I’ve been busy doing some tests for some upcoming comics, and some stuff for the artwork for DGN as well.

I’m glad you found us, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the comic so far. As for the end of the comic…it is coming. It’s just going to take a while. The problem is thinks keep taking longer than I expected. I get into a section that I think is going to take a week, and then I discover that to do it right, it’s going to take a lot longer than expected. And in the end, doing a section right is the most important thing of all. As for an ETA now? Christ, who knows…It will end, and there will be a followup to this thing that will include a number of the people who survived this one.

As for a feature film…heh, I wish. I’ve long joked that Requiem is the storyboard for a movie that will never be done. Though in the end, I think that it would be best served by a long form series in the vein of ‘The Wire’ or ‘Treme’ there is just no way to fit all of this into a normal feature film.

A number of years ago, a couple of people I know did discuss some casting for it. Personally, I’ve always thought that David Thewlis (or maybe Marton Csokas) would make a splendid Clarence Gage. EDGAR would have to be voiced by Keir Dullea. With Kelly Hu for Ena MacSwain. Another friend of mine was putting Mila Kunis out there as Dana McAllen

Which way to film it, who knows….it all depends on the people and how close they were going to try and get everyone.
