Even if he was an Ancient, it doesn’t follow that he knows that he was. Given that he actually grew up with some people, I suspect that, IF he has the personality of an Ancient, he was specifically transferred to the mind of a child and had his memory blocked off.

The ancients are “immortal” – by implication they don’t get leukemia. Also, the eye plague doesn’t affect them. I wonder if he’s related to Thorongil Caladharas … might explain a few things in a twisty sort of way.
