A late term cancer patient, Dr. Gage heads out to Bellisarius Territory to settle his own curiosity about some flaws in the eyewitness reports. He now finds himself spending the last days of his life with his reformed team of Crystal One scientists in an attempt to prevent the literal end of the world.
It’s possible there was rail ingress at one time that was later dismantled. Given the surrounding desert I’d expect to see signs of it. The alternative is they use the “door” and eliminated the workers – which would have caused a major stink and a historical record. I’m wondering if he brought in people and materials from another world and later simply sent them home. No records, no history, no problems.
