If that utility fog is “occupied” by Kursid minds, it’s possible that some of the sentience is “rubbing off” on the nearby AI construct. Nobody would put such a smart AI on a boat, it has to have become that smart after it was installed. Nobody wants a bored AI piloting a supercarrier-sized transport vessel and the smarter you are, the easier it is to get bored.
