Due to family medical issues, Requiem is on indefinite hiatus.
An elderly family member of ours took a bad fall on Labor Day night, and we’ve been dealing with the aftermath ever since. Hopefully, things will get sorted out, but as of right now, doing a daily comic is not something my schedule can allow.
Sorry to have this happen, but as everyone knows, real life comes first….and at least we don’t have too many running storylines on the backburner.
You mean that an incarnation of Dehane died as Chandler, at Chandler Industries? Oh wow! Yes, yesterdays close up was still too dark to show eye detail, or I was too oblivious to catch it. This make Dehane the same sort of asshole as Prometreya, damned difficult to kill.
Yes, we all debated the Nin-Banda option ages ago and, to my knowledge, it was inconclusive. Thanks for the explicit clarification. The scene change still doesn’t make much sense to me. However, the current imagery makes it look more the Erech’s under-levels.
This scene change is related to what happened in the previous section. And it’s not in the Erech underlevels.
A lot of what is coming up has been guessed at by you readers over the last couple days in the comment section. I thought, momentarily, about changing it…but then I realized just how stupid that was.
I mean, hey…I haven’t changed the story because of the comments yet, why start now? 😉
Oh wow. I got the eyes (thanks for zooming in, that was a nice “hint, hint”) and I got sidetracked on the connection between Morgan Veight and Dehane, but I totally missed the connection between Dehane and Chandler. Gonna have to crawl the archive again tonight and find out what I missed. I LOVE well-crafted complex stories like this!
OK, now I’m really confused. As best I can recall, this is the first mention of Nin-Banda since Rebbe Alter mentioned him/her in the Essene garden on 11/02/6563 (11/04/11 modern) yet it is Tobalkin whom he describes the next day (11/03/6563 or 01/02/2012) as having eyes that ‘looked dead in appearance, and dead in what was behind them’. Are we dealing with two different individuals or a single entity that can occupy multiple bodies simultaneously?
You’re right, this is the first mention of Nin-Banda.
Tobalkin is the one with ‘Dead-Eyes’
Two different people, one of whom can jump from shell to shell with some prep time.
Just remember Dehane/Tobalkin/Dead Eyes is a thought form, a Tulpa just like Dumuzi. A body is just a temporary hideout for him. He can leave if he chooses to, although it does require some prep time.
And if you kill him in the body he is inhabiting…he is dead.
Got the Tulpa part part but since Dumuzi can operate multiple bodies simultaneously I was wondering if the Tulpa can too? It could make for a delightfully twisty plot.
I think he’s just messing with us. He likes to do that.
When I saw Magnus Chandler, back when he was wooing a bunch of Taioseach’s for money to finish a Chandler Industries’ project, I thought “He looks just like Dehane!”. But Chandler’s eyes looked normal and I put it off as the author re-using a model. (You got me, James!) And when Chandler got killed in the gas(?) attack, I forgot about it. But now I know that it WAS Dehane. I take it that he exited that body before it got killed (as James said, prep time).
We saw Dumuzi and a couple of other tulpas (tulpae?) in October 2013, but they were not tulpas OF Dumuzi, but of the original.
But then there’s that scene with Morgan Veight and Kira Dawn. . .
Actually, you’re wrong. I hate messing with peoples heads.
Dumuzi is the original. You’ve met his tulpas. They are all aspects of him. You’ve never actually met the original. The original Dumuzi doesn’t even have a body any more. He is ‘mind’ now. And pieces of his consciousness are spread out everywhere.
To quote the relevant section:”What I’m concerned with is what or who was it before it became this, and what happened to the person that was this female form before they became it? Still wonder if the Dweller has projected its appearance and who it will seek out or target to further its agenda?”
Spoiler:The lady in Ruins and Rubble, Nin-Banda has been projected, and the important people have been informed and are on the way to her now. The Dweller picked up on her, but missed the lady that Dehane took over because they took place at right about the same time. You’ll figure that out as this section progresses.
The Dweller doesn’t catch them all, but he does pick up on ones that are particularly important. And Nin-Banda is. She knows about one thing that is incredibly important that you won’t find out about yet. I have told one other reader about it…and I have sworn him to secrecy 😉
Back in the Garden conversation, there was one other Ancient that Alter mentioned whom we haven’t seen or heard of yet (if we assume that “Adah” is Adah Wynant, which she may or may not be), and that is Amar-Sin…
No mention if Amar-Sin is male / female, but the text on to suspension chamber for Dehane’s new body suggests Khurshid.
Darius spoke of Amar-Sin and said Ian and Targeter would know about him as Alter (comic #1499, 2009-05-20). Though it was confusing when Rebbe Alter, later, counted off the survivors of the Upload to Julia and Dana and included both himself (Alter) and Amar-Sin. I’ve been waiting for Ian and Julia to compare notes about this . . .
What I don’t get is the difference between yesterday’s scene and this one.

Undisclosed Location, aka the previous section. The one we just got done with that had another person in a tank.

Morgan Veight and Kira Dawn: That was Dehane.
Dehane left that body at Chandler and took over another one.
Dragonrider figured out the key in his comment on http://requiem.spiderforest.com/?comic=2018-04-05
