   Aghhh! It CANNOT be night time if the moon’s crescent is pointed up in the sky. The sun would be up and it would be day time. The crescent points toward the sun.

     I did it that way so that the object I was using wasn’t so blatantly obviously OUR moon in a different universe..

       Unfortunately, that’s just a property of spheres combined with distant light sources in general. No matter which moon, it’s going to behave the same way in this regard.
