   I love how you show Ian’s particular upbringing / subculture. It’s a bit how I was raised too: when going for even a ten-minute ramble in the hills out back, leave word in some way about when you left and where you’re going.

   The problem was, she wasn’t going in the tunnels. She was collecting intelligence. In that line of work, having back-up (in time of war) is all too often a luxury. Given the circumstances, she may very well have done the right thing. As noted, it shows Ian’s view of things. Give him 10 years and he will have an “except for” qualifier.
