If the towers were designed by the Kurshid and he is one of them, how come he doesn’t understand their technology?

You have to remember that Ekur found him as a kid after the Great Leap. He was just a child when all the other stuff happened. From what we know, Demuzi is the only guy who understands most everything of what is going on and how all the science works.
