Hmm… Sounds like what the Dweller does, though without his massive data set.

Pattern recognition is unusual amoung women. If you’ve ever taught chess, you know what I mean. This will be an interesting story line to say the least …

@Count Thalim: There is a difference. The Dweller reinforces his pattern recognition with statistical models. These guys don’t. With them it is mostly subconsciouus-intuitive. It’s a zen thing, eh? The Dweller actually consciously does the calculations only he does them blinding fast. Using the subconscious is quite different.

@Ken As slamlander said, it more of a subconscious thing with these ladies and they say that women are invariably better than men when it comes to intuition which draws on your subconscious. I disagree, I just think most men rely too much on their logical problem solving ability and don’t listen to their intuition as much, that gut feeling about something.

I have the gift of finding patterns in chaos, its probably why I enjoy my job so much working as a Data Analyst with massive databases. What you probably don’t realize is that everything that your five senses have encountered throughout your life has been recorded in your subconscious. You may not remember everything consciously but it is there and can be used by you with the right techniques.

Subconscious or not, to see things and events in patterns tends to be a male talent. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t women who have the ability – for instance, mechanics, architects, accountants, and – yes – data analysts. For instance: when teaching men, show them a pattern and instructions and they will follow the pattern regardless of the instructions. Do the same with women and they will follow the instructions regardless of the pattern. Now, this is not 100% true. It is probably about 60% to 70% true for both sexes. After all, there are many men who don’t see and recognize patterns.
