But absolutely accurate. Note that Ian’s coup of the Maris Islands is just as harsh to the Old Guard. As was said, in this war, there is no middle ground and Dehane is even more harsh.
But accurate, and I think the Mariner would largely agree. He was priming Ethan for taking over as the initial crisis unfolded anyway. If he returned at this point, I think he’d recognize his nephew has established a powerbase and is using it honorably and effectively; no need to assert himself.
If anything, the danger would come from those dissatisfied with Ethan’s policies, who would try to make his uncle their rallying point. I can’t see the Mariner going along with that, but just attempting it could do damage before Ethan and his people put the rebels down.
It just occurred to me . . . Wright01, were you typing your comment on one of those “I’m-smarter-than-you” phones with the automatic typing correction? Ian is not a common name, the phone may have changed it!
Wright01 may have mis-remembered Ian’s name and his relationship to his grandfather Thorongil (the Mariner), but he remembers the essential point correctly. ‘Way back in comics #209 and 210 , Jessica kicked Thorongil in the ass for behaving like an old man. And later (comics #549 through 554), they told Hakon BlackAxe of their intent to wed, retire, and turn both their houses over to Ian and Julia.
