The “mostly-unused-portions-of-the-brain” theory was debunked many years ago. It came from very old studies of the human brain when the scientists involved just didn’t know what certain areas of the brain did.

With more knowledge and better equipment much more of the brain has been mapped.

In addition, it makes little sense for there to be large unused portions of the brain because our brain uses about 25% of our metabolism.
