Keighvin Zerus, Ishara’s (off/on/off) husband. He is also one of the people who have been exposed to the Sentience Virus. Keighvin was the founder of the city of the same name when he first met Ishara some three thousand years ago. He keeps a fairly low profile these days, as there are still a few people out there who would recognize him :)
Keighvin has kept his situation very quiet, and bought up the occasional press photo that might be embarrassing 😉 He’s known to a few members of government in that Territory, and the Zerus family as well.
And Ian’s grandfather never found out that Keighvin was still alive (though they did know each other, and weren’t exactly friendly either). More will be talked about with how he managed to dodge official notice next week.
Okay, that part works but my question pertains to something more fundamental and I just realised what it was. The whole conversation is out of character for both of them. It’s the sort of conversation two mates would have in their first decade or at least in their first century of being together, not 4 millenia hence.
Actually, it doesn’t seem too implausible that long-lived people would repeat familiar conversations, behaviors, even entire careers. Look how easily most of us stay in our well-worn ruts and patterns, with just a few decades to establish them.
Someone with a lifespan measured in millennium might take a century or two to go through such a routine, and it would probably be healthier to avoid (or at least vary) such repetition, but I bet it would still happen.
Not if they haven’t talked about it for the last three and a half millenia. On another note, though, at some point I’d like to find out how they’ve managed to survive the boredom that should have terminated their relationship and (quite frankly) their lives. Also, the effects on their admittedly finite memory.
