Mr Dehane’s last line was adapted from this:
“I haven’t laughed so much over anything since the hogs ate my kid brother”—Dashiell Hammett “Red Harvest“
An excellent novel, and a very brutal piece of work. One of my favorites of all time, actually. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Hammett, the links above should get you up to speed on the man who was responsible for “The Maltese Falcon”, and “The Thin Man”.

I knew I\’d heard it somewhere! You\’re right about Red Harvest. It was the first book that showed me I could be desensitized to violence. My favorite, though, is still The Dain Curse. Like Poe, his short stories featured his best writing. Hammet was a victim of politics, something like a few of your characters.

@Ken, I’m biased towards Harvest because it was the first one I ever read. The Dane Curse is awesome as well. My father (who introduced me to him), is a huge fan of The Glass Key.
His short stories are perfect in my opinion. Damn near flawless.
Thst might work better with a drink glass. Soda bottles don’t break so easy.
@Slamlander, True. But I’ve always been sentimental towards the old style pop bottles.
Hammett is not an author you hear quoted that often, tho were the truth know it’s highly probable his writings are the basis for many misquotes.
@Dragonrider, Oh most definitely, I personally think that a lot of noir authors over the years have adapted wither his quotes or Raymond Chandlers.
