Among other possibilities consider: The Erech tower became aware of Tobalkin’s plans via one or more of its doppelgangers and decided to use the mass casualty event to ease the stress on this corner of the universe. Tobalkin appears more closely affiliated with the Starfall tower than Erech.

I’m confused. I just looked at the Casualties page, and saw two new entries: Vance Greylock and Mandroc. But back in 6563, Month of Falling Leaves, day 25 (2007-05-31 through 2007-06-06), Miko and three Threllichock were entering Shoreham’s house through the basement. Two of the Threllichock were Mandroc and Dernoc; the third’s name was not mentioned. All three were killed by Shoreham, just before he maimed Miko.
