That is a scene I am really looking forward to.

BTW, I am looking into Carrera now … ouch! Then I have to get characters and scenes. Even at their low prices, the totals add up fast.

Yeah, definitely. And I’ve been getting stuff since 2004 ๐Ÿ˜‰

Of course, it also gives me an advantage, I have a lot of things that just aren’t sold anymore. Plus, I have a number of things that were too resource intensive to be used in 2006-2007 that work perfectly now with our better systems.

Do you use a Grid render farm?

I don’t use Grid….I’d love to someday, but I am only a one computer shop. And Carrara does have a distributed rendering solution built into it.

I’ve used it before on earlier versions (2006-2007), and it works pretty good.

The software that comes with it is called Carrara Render Node. And it works pretty good. I used to use it mainly for sending things to another machine for overnight renders on some of the earlier poster/print art I did. If I remember right, the license on it is good for five computers.

Of course, it might also be worth your time to sit down and learn DAZ Studio. I don’t use it because the interface drives me batty from earlier versions (and a few compatibility things with my older content.) But starting fresh, you wouldn’t have the problem really.

I actually downloaded and installed Studio yesterday morn. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I was going to ask you if it would more help than hinder ๐Ÿ˜‰

A lot of what I use DAZ Studio for now is importing some of the newer stuff into formats my copy of Carrara can read and use. So it has helped me a bit….it’s just new creation that gives me a headache.

Okay, so I learn the 3D basics on Studio and then move towards Carrera, cool! ๐Ÿ˜‰
That also lets me spread out the costs a bit.

BTW, what does Poser do for you?

Character Design. Pose Design. I honestly think Poser works better with Carrara than DAZ Studio does. There are still problems with using DAZ Studio formats being read in Carrara 8.5 (and it seems that they have abandoned development on it as well, which is why I stuck with 8.1)

Abandoned, as in ‘Orphaned’ their flagship product??
Which products are being maintained then?

DAZ Studio became their flagship product, with their own proprietary software formats to go with it, it’s updated pretty frequently. Carrara did their 8.5 version in 2013, and largely have been silent ever since. I bought 8.1 back in 2010 (when they went 64-bit with it) and stuck with it…I did buy 8.5, but stopped using it to the issues I already metioned previously. These days I use Poser Pro 2014 and Cararra 8.1 (and numerous earlier Poser versions due to plugins that are version specific)
DAZ turned themselves into a content provider for their DAZ Studio product, mainly. With most of their new products being specific to DAZ Studio. I largely use Renderosity for any new content I purchase now (with some rare exceptions for things for older products)

Studio want PostgreSQL for a CMS
    Installing 64-bit PostgreSQL now
This makes my 4th RDBMS on this laptop ๐Ÿ˜‰
Not bad for a retired guy ๐Ÿ˜‰
